Wild at Heart (1990) - David Lynch

”This whole world's wild at heart and weird on top.”

I was having a bit of trouble picking exactly which of Lynch’s films I wanted to talk about. I was stuck between this film and Blue Velvet, but I figured less people have probably heard of this film, so here we are.

Like all of Lynch’s art, there is no good way to explain this film. It’s Lynch’s telling of classic runaway road movie, and its captivating from beginning to end. Laura Dern is of course made for the world of Lynch, but Nicholas Cage is with her step for step in committing to the bizarre and beautiful. At its core, it’s a film about love, unconditionally and totally. Like all of Lynch’s films are.

And it sure is a beautiful film, Mr. Lynch.
